After the conflict involving General Barkov and the gasses, Sergeant Elena "River" Reyes aided in the mission alongside Captain Price and Sergeant Gaz alongside Alex and Farah. One year later, she returned to London, where she was assigned to work undercover alongside Nathan, who became both her mentor and partner. This opportunity provided Elena with a chance to focus on herself, which she willingly embraced.

Two years passed, and Elena received a letter in her mailbox from Captain Price informing her of her selection to be part of a team called "Task Force 1-4-1." Despite not responding, Price surprised her by personally inviting her to a private discussion at a cafe. While Price wasn't particularly eager about her joining the Task Force, he broke the news that General Shepherd demanded her return to the military and join in on the search for Hassan Zyani. Elena had no choice in the matter, even if she disagreed.

The following day, Gaz, with whom Elena had stayed connected, picked her up. He assisted her in settling down and trained with her until late at night. As Elena prepared for the mission to Al-Marzarah, Price unexpectedly informed her that he wouldn't be involved and that she would proceed with two other members: Sergeant John "Soap" MacTavish and their Lieutenant Ghost. Upon meeting Soap in a truck, Elena sensed his friendly demeanor, but as she disembarked, she encountered Lieutenant Ghost. Instantly, she noticed his imposing skull mask and realized he was not someone to be underestimated or prone to mistakes.

Despite the uncertainties, Elena held hope that everything would go smoothly. She aimed to feel comfortable in her new team and anticipated nothing standing in their way. What could possibly go wrong?
