"Yn..." This time, the voice was closer, right behind her. She spun around, her heart pounding in her throat, but the room was empty. Yet the presence lingered, dark and cold, wrapping around her like a suffocating embrace. "Who's there?" she demanded, her voice shaking. "Show yourself!" In response, the shadows seemed to shift, coalescing into something that almost resembled a figure-a tall, dark shape, with piercing eyes that seemed to burn into her very soul. The figure moved closer, its form solidifying into that of a man, or at least something that looked like a man. He had sharp features, his dark eyes gleaming with a dangerous intensity, his lips curled into a smirk that sent a shiver down her spine.
