Years in the future, the world has crumbled, the world has changed.
One day, everyone over the age of 30 died, and that is how it was for years to come; at the age of 30, you died. It could be on the day you turn 30, or the last day of your 30th year of life, no one knows why or how this happened.
To keep the population alive, teenagers needed to reproduce.
Also, the remainder of the population of humans live on giant islands hundreds of feet above the surface. 
Up here, the normals were safe from harm, safe from danger.
Mist Johansson is from this society, she lives on the Central island and her life has already been set out for her. But as her mother reaches her 30th year of life, she is scared for her mother and wants answers.
But to get the answers, she needs to go over the edge.
