Teenager Evalyn Hale's father is in the hospital after suffering a major stroke due to his cancer. Stricken with worry, she refuses to leave the hospital, desperate for any news. 
    
    Eva sees a unknown, strange man, dressed in all black walking towards her father's room. This man is more than he seems. This man is Death.

    "Only family's allowed in there..." I spoke quietly.
    
    His lifeless, cold eyes bore into mine, as if trying to decipher something inside me. They were filled with an emotion I could not name. Fear? Curiosity? Fascination?
    
    After minutes of staring into my eyes, he finally spoke.
    
    His voice was low, and there was the same emotion in his voice that was conveyed in his eyes. Yet I still couldn't define it. Amusement? Shock? Anger?
