Josephine Devereaux has spent her entire life wishing she liked change & spontaneity. But when she gets accepted into Southern Chicago U's forensics program, change suddenly isn't so scary. Fast forward two years- she's a junior at the top of her class & adjusted to her life in Chicago.

Beckett Daniels has always tried to do the right thing. Growing up, he adopted every mantra he saw, whether it was on a wall in a Chinese restaurant or told to him by his grandparents. And they've all helped him get to where he is, the top of his class in the forensics program at Southern Chicago U & in an apartment with his best friends.

But soon he realizes that no mantra could've prepared him for Josephine Devereaux. And she realizes there was nothing routine about Beckett Daniels. And as their friend groups intertwine and they find themselves seeing each other daily, the two are forced to face the fact that maybe the years spent fighting to keep each other at arm's length- simply prolonged the inevitable.
