"Caterina McAvoy, are you even listening to me?"

I looked back up at the tall boy with the smoldering eyes I had tried to avoid for so many years. He offered me a smile and my eyes shot back down to the ground, where I had once laid. He tipped my chin up to look up at him once more. With his towering height and my tiny figure, I craned my neck just to catch a glimpse of the humanity in his eyes.

"Right, you don't talk much anymore," he chuckled lightly, casting a grin in my direction. "You also don't respond to Caterina anymore, do you Small?"

"I haven't since I was twelve," I replied, ice wrapping my words. "You haven't ever picked me up off the floor before... What's the deal, pretty boy?"

His slight smile denied itself the pleasure of being shown and his frown regained its position, "why can't I just be the hero you need?"

"Because no ones my hero."

No one acted like they knew what to do with Small and she liked it that way. Her best friends, Lila, Kasey and Will knew what she went through. They knew about her uncle and what he did to Jessa, they know what her family is like, they know her story.

At least, they think they do.

No one knew her deal with Henry, the school's playboy. She had that secret under lock and key, and she wasn't willing or trusting anyone with it. She had her heart in a jar and didn't let it go. But when Henry came digging around in her business, she tried to hide everything she had.

Will he figure out her secret? Or will she end with a bang?
