Fearless. Yeah right. If she was fearless, Simulation wouldn't be a problem. Imagine how easy it would be. Going to face each of your fears, and not having any. For Kaitlyn Shrewn, a fifteen year old girl from the farmlands of Briar, it's a joke to think of not having any fears. Only fools wouldn't admit to being afraid. She would go to the Faction, take the Tests, and then be pushed into a horrible simulation where her worst fears are brought to life, along with nine other children. But when the new Faction leader changes the rules, things change from something everyone does to a struggle to survive another minute. The new leader, turns a tradition of adulthood into a killing game that Kaitlyn finds herself part of. Along with her best friends and worst enemies, she must find a way to become fearless, all while running from the bloodthirsty nightmares of her own creation. Their task is to set up a base on a supposedly habitable planet and prepare it for colonization. Although the planet has liquid water and a breathable atmosphere, it is believed to host only microbial life. However, upon arriving, Shawn and the rest of the colonists learn that assumption was grossly incorrect. In a brutal attack from rampaging wildlife, everyone but Shawn and four other colonists are killed. The five survivors retreat to the cavernous network beneath the ground seeking safety, but they soon come to a terrible discovery. These caves aren't ordinary caves, and they are no safer down under than they were on the surface. Evelyn Sheer and the researchers are trying to create a genetic modification that enables humans to photosynthesize. Once in the facility, Evita is tagged as a test subject and loses all say over what happens to her body. She has to escape. By the time she comes up with a plan there is only one problem. Evita isn't ready to leave.

The people of Saffire have been waiting to see The Coming fulfilled. Demalynn assembles a group of clackers to get her home, the most important of which is a fellow clacker: eighteen-year-old Aiden. It is not long before Jago, the ruler of Saffire, learns that a woman on Saffire is pregnant and he unleashes all his power to prevent the birth. Jago will not give up power. Demalynn is surprised to find out she is the Helper, but is astounded to learn the identity of the Gravidarum. Demalynn must battle to stay alive and fumbles towards the realization that Aiden is much more than a close friend. She is certain, with the certainty that only a seventeen-year-old can possess, that Aiden is her only true love. Demalynn is desperate to find a way back home until she must make a choice: stay with Aiden on Saffire or go back home and re-unite her family. There's no place like home.
