It was eating the flesh of a dead man. The sight made her sick to her stomach, and the creature targeted her next. That's when the man she saw in the distance intervened. He had some kind of training to fight something like that, and the woman had to go through it now too. You look back out the glass as you press the phone to your ear, and notice he is much closer to you now. You then drop the phone in shock. There are no footprints in the snow... It's his reflection.
