Mera's eyes fluttered open. She spotted Jake beside her kneeling on the ground and holding her hand as he slept. She looked at the time, 2am. Bella tried to lean towards him, but her chest ached, causing her to cough blood. Bella looked at the blood in her hands. Tears swelled up in her eyes and began escaping. Why did he have to see her like this? Why must she end up hurting him, too? Bella coughed  once more, waking Jake up in the process. He looked at her sleepy and blinked twice, his eyes widened in horror at the sight of her coughing up blood. "Mera," he said, concerned. She looked at him with tears in her eyes. "I'll call the doctor -" she cut him off by holding his grey shirt, staining it with her bloody hands. She shook her head and sobbed silently. Jakes lips parted. He kneeled beside her and cleaned her hand with a wet wipe. "Please, Mera, please see the doctor," he said softly with tears in his eyes. She shook her head and held his hand. Jake sat beside her on the bed and leaned forward. He kissed her lips gently, and she found herself kissing him subconsciously. His eyes were sadden and concerned.
