Charlotte Ann was adopted by Emily Prentiss when she was 14 years old; her parents were unsubs in a 2018 case worked by the BAU. Four years later, Charlotte is 18 and moves away to college. Emily is now Section Chief of the BAU, with more responsibility than before, and is unaware of how much Charlotte is struggling in college- until her daughter appears at her office door a day earlier than she was supposed to.
