“I don’t know,” Tyler murmured hardly audible to anyone who was not laying as close to ehr as I was. “I guess I’m a bit of a skeptic.”

“That’s reasonable” I said, running my fingers down her back in an attempt to soothe her. “I’m not here to hurt you,”

“You couldn’t hurt me. I’ve made it so that no one can ever hurt me in anyway again.” she rolled over onto her side drawing the checkered patterned print comforter over her. I knew she wasn’t asleep but I decided to let her think I believed she was.

I turned off the desk lamp and fumbled around for the rest of the blanket. hesitantly, I attempted to wrap my arm around her bare waist. I felt her body shift to curve into mine in acceptance of the gesture. I tightened my grip around her and pulled her a bit closer. I kissed the bare skin below her neck.

“I could hurt you,” I whispered taking a small hit off the joint before stubbing it out into the ashtray beside the bed. “I don’t want to. But I could.”
