Killua, the heir to the Zoldyck family of assassins, has never understood true love. Unable to trust the psychotic and manipulative nature of his family, Killua runs away to partake in the Hunter exam, bringing along his only confidant who has served him since childhood, Kamine. Kamine is a quiet and mysterious child with the innate ability to see glimpses of the future and the only person Killua wholeheartedly trusts.
Killua is surprised when he manages to make a new friend, Gon, during the Hunter Exam. But as the pair grow closer through their interactions, it only makes it more apparent the distance between him and his beloved butler. As much as he cares for the female, he is sure those feelings of longing are not reciprocated. Unable to get over the fear of Kamine leaving him, Killua hesitates on freeing the young girl leading himself into the dilemma that plagues his mind.
