Coming Home

Emma Orfea Valdez.

Youngest and the only daughter in the Valdez clan in over a century. Fitting her name, she was the entire universe of the Valdez family. She made them whole, she shed light on the darkness they possessed. She was joy and they were happy.

Until her parents filed for divorce. Until she was forced to go live with her mother, hundreds of miles away from home.

Now she's back, with those people, in that house but nothing is the same anymore. Her father is different and so are her brothers. There are new members in the family, a stepmom along with step-siblings.

"You don't know everything that goes on in this family, Emma," her oldest brother sounded exasperated, irritated even.

Unfortunately for him, Emma wasn't in the mood to back down.

'Yeah, I know. I am not exactly a part of it.'

Her written words had the desired reaction, a flash of guilt and sorrow passed through his amber eyes before he covered it up. Trying to maintain his usual stoic face, he spoke up, "There are some things that you're never going to know."

Emma wrote down her counterattack, preparing to blow his impassive façade away.

'Like the mafia? Cause I know about that.'
