Follow the Yu-Gi-Oh characters to Sengoku Japan, where warfare is constant, youkai prowl the wilds, and youkai slayer clans arise to fight them. The Muto clan has been one of the strongest of these for centuries, but the young son of the current clan head was exiled as a young teen for his refusal to kill. Offered a job by the mysterious warlord Kagewaki along with the magical Millennium Spellbook, Yugi is tasked with finding and recruiting youkai from all over feudal Japan in order to build an army for Kagewaki to stop the bloodshed - by taking over and ruling the country himself. However, Kagewaki is hiding some secrets, and soon Yugi and his new youkai allies will be forced to side with him or against him.

Yugi, a young boy who was a servant for the royal family in Egypt, had stumbled upon the young prince with one of his teachers in the garden. Yugi was not allowed to befriend or speak with Atem unless asked or forced to. One day, Yugi was playing with some of the other servant kids until the young prince and his friend Mana were out in the field kicking some rocks. The young servant had not realized on how much he and the prince looked alike, the only 2 differences were that Yugi was way more paler and was not royal. Yugi had somehow gotten hurt, and this is where the relationship began. As his "friends" left him because they could not handle the crying, the caring prince and his friend rushed over to his aid. The servant just thought they'd help so none of their 'slaves' would be harmed and could continue working but that's not how Atem saw it. Later on things had happened to where the prince had ordered his father to keep Yugi in the palace, so the two grew up together until war began. For 3 years Atem had left..
