I rubbed away the tears, scrubbing the edge of my sweater on my sore skin. "And somehow you keep acting like that singular most important factor in whatever you're doing here with me is nothing." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In the bustling city of Lagos, Nigeria, a young woman named Somi struggles to be stable. She has been in and out of jobs, trying to keep up her "A" streak in school. Hot-headed and a go-getter. Her life turns when she meets Adams, a handsome and successful, Arewa man from an influential family, and despite having a betrothed, Adams is drawn to Somi's beauty, charm, and personality. Sarima is Somi's twin sister, and she struggles to make ends meet just like her sister. She has to deal with the university hassle, bills, and finding a good life with her sisters, Somi and Homa, without selling her body(beauty). She feels lost and directionless as there are a lot of drawbacks to being independent and surviving in Nigeria. To make matters worse, she also struggles with her feelings for her supposed friend, Kene. At the age of 10, she was already betrothed to Mallam sanusi, younger brother to the village chief. His rotten kolanut designed mouth was all she saw when her mother disclosed that information. Being a strong headed child, she's always been, had she packed up her clothes in a silk headtie, she hit the road at midnight when every family member of hers was asleep. Had she known what she was getting herself into, she would never have left home. Had she known the hell she'll pass through, she would have happily married Mallam sanusi. Had she known the hardship she'll have to endure, she would have danced her way to Mallam sanusi's home. Had she known the dangers she'll encounter, his rotten kolanut designed mouth, would have been the least of her worries! But she's left home already, she has to survive. It's her only option.Complete
