Ella Rose Morgan disappears on a Friday night, and her parents request that no formal search be conducted. When Ella doesn't turn up after 48 hours, the police have the right to override the parents' request and actively look for Ella. The police station is getting help from two of Ella's best friends: Theo Johnson and Josh Clark. When it seems the boys know more than the police force does, people begin to lose hope in finding Ella, and her disappearance goes from being a top news story to being swept under the rug, only to be asked about occasionally through small talk. After ten months of being with Carter, she’s found, but the experience has totally changed her. She’s no longer the happy-go-lucky girl that everyone used to know and love; she’s now cold, hard and suffers from night terrors. It appears that Carter broke not only her body, but her spirit too.
