Friendless for most of her life except for brief periods of companionship, Gert isn't too affected when her and her parents move halfway across the country to her father's hometown of Misery.

Gert's first weeks in Misery are--well--miserable. She gets on the bad side of the school genius Zelda Baldur, she keeps getting her lunch stolen, and it keeps raining. However things take an odd turn when she finds herself involved in the town's supernatural doings and becomes the boss to a mob of rowdy monsters.
