This story started with me listening to the song by Matt Maeson and visualizing what it would be like for someone to reconnect with a past love/close friend after a long time. When dust has settled on the surface and you're both not quite the same person you were when you last saw each other in the soft glow of affection, but you still have an undeniable connection. I wanted things to seem overly obvious but deep down be much more than simple tropes and silly coincidence. I pictured Karrah's boots on the dark sidewalk, holding her jacket around her in the chilly night air. I pictured Luke lighting her cigarette. I thought to myself, how do I personify the bittersweet nostalgia of a "what if" love, of the bond between people who know you better than anyone and you don't even realize what they are to you? How do I turn that sour taste and achy feeling into words? I wanted to display emotion first of all, with a secondary focus on how complex and elaborate we are as humans. I wanted to show the pain, and the pleasure, and the in betweens. Exploring gender identity and sexualities, and discovering true self through the journey. Exposing the corruption of the industry is just a bonus. This is more to me than just a silly book, these words are dreams on pages. 🖤✨

I walk nervously into the room, way out of my comfort zone in the presence of all these unfamiliar people. I look around, my deep brown eyes scanning the room, taking everything in. What was I thinking? I can't do this. I begin to turn around, intending to leave through the door I came in. I take one step before crashing into someone a girl who was too focused on the conversation she was having with her friend, that she wasn't looking where she was going, resulting in both of us ending up on the floor rubbing our foreheads in pain. "Shit I am so sorry" I whispered. Reaching out a hand to help pull her off the ground. She accepted my help, and I swear I felt some sort of spark when our fingers brushed. "Oh no, don't worry about it, it was totally my fault I wasn't looking where I was going" she replied, running her fingers through her hair before looking up at me with gorgeous brown eyes the colour of chocolate. "I'm Phoebe, by the way" "Calum" "Nice to meet you Calum! Are you trying out for the musical?" "Uh, yeah... I guess I am" ⭒⭒⭒ Highest Book Rankings: #1 - 5sosfanfiction #1 - calum #1 - ashton #2 - calumthomashood #2 - cth #2 - phoebe #6 - awstenknight #7 - 5sosfanfic #10 - michaelclifford #11 - 5sos #14 - calumhood #15 - 5secondsofsummer #15 - ashtonirwin #16 - michael #20 - lukehemmings #21 - luke (+a few more) *I'll probably forget to update these but oh well*
