This is a story about trauma bonds, abusive response and how to make boundaries.
I have in the past 6 months seen a lot of women suffer in mentally abusive relationships and exactly for what? is any man really worth that pain and suffering? Throughout 2022 I have learned so much about myself, why I let myself get used by a man too. A man I believed loved me, but he for sure proved me wrong.
So how do you break this cycle when you have been in it for 12 years?
I hope I can help other women in the same situation as me and together we will no longer let ourselves get used and have to beg for the bare minimum.

But even after we were freed, i wasn't really free. the PTSD haunted me. I avoided certain materials, certain places, even certain sounds. And every night, I heard the voices. Every relationship after that was wrong-narcissists who broke me down even further. Men who convinced me I was unworthy, unwanted. My current ex even told my son Aj that he wasn't wanted-that he was nothing. I let it happen, and the guilt kills me. I became "the girl who never cried." I thought if I never cried, maybe none of it really happened. But the truth is, it didn't. And it changed me.

Religion, society and family have subconsciously compelled African women into accepting everything including domestic violence as long as the 'Mrs' title is retained. Many women have lost their lives through physical and emotional abuse. They stay put in abusive relationships cos most are afraid to bear the tag "divorcee", so they rather die than leave.
