Norabel and her mother are forced to move out of their neighborhood due to insecurity caused by gang members expanding their territory in many cities of Haiti. Her mother's colleague has kindly offered them shelter, and Norabel spends most of her days brooding in her bedroom. Leaving her hometown to live with strangers was definitely not how Norabel expected her senior year at university to go. 

During this stay in her temporary home, Norabel meets Ethan, the son of her mother's colleague. An unlikely friendship begins to bloom between the two of them. Norabel hates this country with a burning passion for what it has put her through, whereas Ethan still finds Haiti beautiful despite the chaos that has set in.

After nursing a broken heart, Norabel had closed the door to love for almost a year. However, unexpected feelings start to rise when she begins to spend time with Ethan, and he seems to make it a mission to care for her well-being.

Ethan has a secret burden of his own, but he's determined to make Norabel shed her pessimism during the short time they'll be cohabiting.  He's an incurable romantic, and Norabel has definitely caught his attention.
