Seated on the slick ground caked in layers of crusted blood, not knowing who it belonged to, she stared into his ashen face lying in her lap, drowning out the screams and cries that consumed the air around her. 

The gory outrage carried on but she could only focus on the shallow breaths coming from his punctured lungs.  

Was it all worth it? She thought. 

If it all ended now... would this glimpse of an unworldly adventure with the only person she could now say she loved be worth the sorrow it could reap? 

"Please don't leave me" she whispered, her voice barely audible amongst the cries of the  barbarous soldiers.
