"I am destiny's most lethal weapon."

~♦~♦~♦~

Running from her problems has never quite been Astrid's style, so skipping her home country to escape an arranged marriage is definitely something out of the norm.

Something else out of the norm: dragons. Even in a land where the dead can walk, humans can shoot lightning bolts, and swords can catch fire, dragons are a legend in Skyrim, and even more of a legend is the hero sent to stop their uprising.

But when myth becomes reality and Astrid finds the fate of the world at the tip of her battleaxe, the eighteen year old blacksmith must leave her life behind in pursuit of a destiny she never imagined.

In a world where hearts are cold and winters are colder, can Astrid find her voice to save the land and herself?

{Set in the world of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (which belongs entirely to Bethesda), this is a story that adheres GENERALLY to the main plotline of the game, with integral characters created by me. Although it is a fanfiction, those who are unfamiliar with the game may enjoy the book as well. }

Arc I - Echoes and Fragments She just wanted to stay alive. She became necessary. Armed with a bow, a broken past, and a soul that roars like dragons, Ruby never meant to be part of history. Now, she's rewriting it. __________________________________ Ruby has no memory, no name, no home. A wandering huntress, she survives from one contract to the next across the frozen lands of Skyrim. One day, caught in an ambush between the Imperial Legion and the Stormcloak rebellion, she escapes execution... thanks to a dragon. The event shatters everything: her world, her certainties, and perhaps even the fabric of Time itself. Her path crosses that of Markab Steel-Blood, a Nord warrior as calm as she is ancient. Marked by dragon's blood and centuries of solitude, Markab senses in the young woman a destiny she herself cannot yet understand. Between them, a bond will form, sincere, unpredictable, dangerous. As Skyrim sinks deeper into civil war, Ruby must choose between becoming a symbol... or remaining free. And Markab must decide whether enough humanity remains within her to still believe that history is not doomed to repeat itself. A saga inspired by the world of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, blending fantasy, tragedy, and the search for identity. __________________________________ Disclaimer: This story is inspired by the universe of The Elder Scrolls, which belongs to Bethesda Softworks. Esme had one big fear in life: being captured as a thief by the city's guardsmen and being executed for her crimes, and that so heavily weighed on her mind that she increased her risks by being distracted in the middle of a heist. That's when she runs into Althalos Fourthborn: Inner Circle Guardsman, one of the many princes of the realm, an Aelif (Dark Elf, local dialect)...and her betrothed by treaty. (That was something her almost human mind could not handle.) So she calls off the heist, gets demoted into a far more risky job, learns the true bitter depth of what this treaty's bond is like, and lands safely by her prince's side....sort of. There were people who still wanted to end her life, even if she was in what most people would call a Happily Ever After. That and her prince had his own living fears that were gnawing at any chance they had. That and she might just lose her mind from everyday boredom. But the one she couldn't wrap her all-too human mind around was that she would one day grow wings and fly away from her almost Happily Ever After to live in a hive with ancestors more alien than a hottie with pointed ears and abandonment issues. ~~~~ Yes, there are adult themes in this book, and difficult subjects, but nothing is excessive, as this is probably my simplest story. So, trigger warnings: A history of assault. Occasional vulgar language. References to partial cannibaliam. Extremely mild, light, and rare sex scenes. At least one elitist mentality. ~~~~ Ages of MC/ML: Esme: Apparent age of 24, roughly 20 years lived (mostly human). Althalos: Apparent age of 30, roughly 65 years lived (Elves mature slower).
