He hesitated, and leaned in closer smiling wildly "It will be over quickly"
They plunged the syringe into Roman's arm. Roman only felt the sharp ache of the needle at first. For a second he hoped the serum had failed, that maybe he had some type of immunity.
Then it hit his brain.
Roman didn't remember screaming though somebody was, the serum scorched through them. The feeling that followed was worse. It was a skin-crawling intimate feeling like something had settled in their head. Like it was tightening around every bone and muscle in their body. Coating something inside and sealing it tight. Then there was nothing but the burn of the serum, awaiting purpose. His panic was gone, the bad things were gone. Roman felt the man's finger on his cheek brushing away something wet.
"Tell me how you feel, are you hurt?"
The instruction was good, the purpose followed. It soothed the unbearable burn of the serum.
"I want to serve" Roman said "Tell me how I can be of assistance"
The man smiled.

Intrigued now, he went to the window of the house and watched as she reassured her mother that the dog was gone "I'll see you tonight, reckless child."
