"Stop messing with me." He threatened through his teeth, his breathing as erratic as mine.

I let out a stifled laugh. "Or else?"

He inhaled deep through his nose, poked the inside of his cheek, as if he was trying to make a tough decision, all the while keeping such an intense stare on my eyes, it was almost uncomfortable.

"I won, so you stop." James' mouth was so close, I could feel his words in mine.

"Think again, Jamesie." I raised my left hand to his throat, holding the same dagger I had knocked out of his hand before.

In the middle of all the rolling around, I'd managed to catch it. A strike of luck, really.

James grunted a labored sigh and inched even further towards me. "You're fucking impossible..." His eyes flicked over to my lips. I felt my stomach tingle.

"You're heavy." I complained, my voice a little more than a rasp.

His index finger grazed on my jaw. "You can take it."

                                                [---]

My life was perfectly fine.

Adoptive daughter of a millionaire, unofficial leader of a team of private security, friend to many unstable, skilled fighters, free as a little bird to do whatever I wanted - as long as I kept it out of the media's scent.

Then along came James Fucking Blackwell to ruin everything.

Just because I happened to rescue him during my time as an asset for the US Army, the damn asshole convinced himself I was some sort of angel and wouldn't leave me alone.

I hated him. Kinda.

"Will you ever, forgive me?" he whispered huskily, his eyes intently staring into mine. His face was only mere inches from me. I just needed to reach out a little further to kiss him... "Yeah. BOOK #1 in The Fire series TRIGGER WARNING IN SOME CHAPTERS He leans closer, keeping me pinned against the wall with his hands on either side of my head. I glanced at both of them before holding his glare with my own. He was giving me a cold stare, caging me in like an animal. I bit my lip, trying to hold it back. I was never good in situations like these. He stopped leaning forward when his face was just inches from mine. He was trying to make me uncomfortable. Trying to scare me, but he didn't. I wasn't scared of him. I didn't hide my face or get nervous... I just bit my lip harder, trying to hold it in. It would just make things worse for me, I bet. He kept his eyes on mine as I glanced at his friend behind him with his arms crossed and a bored expression on his face. I looked back at the man in front of me. "You shouldn't act that way around me." He says coldly. "I can have you dead right-" I couldn't hold it in. I started laughing. He leans back, shocked, but his face goes into a glare as soon as his friend behind him perks up, watching, interested now. I calm down a little. "I'm sorry." I say, catching my breath. "Continue, Continue." He watched me closely before leaning closer to me again. "I can have you killed-" Suddenly, I lost it again, laughing harder, bending a little to hold my stomach. He punched the wall in an effort to scare me but instead made me laugh even harder, falling to the ground and rolling on my side. Soon I had his friend laughing with me as the man in front of me glared at both of us. "Don't give me that look. She's the one who started laughing." His friend said, wheezing a little bit and trying to stop laughing. I calmed down a bit, standing up to face them, a smile on my face. "Now, if you're done threatening me," I raise an eyebrow. "Or at least trying to. I'll be on my way." With that, I grabbed my backpack, turned my back to them, and walked away.

"In a world of shadows, she hid her true self, while he buried his emotions deep within. They were both running from the truth, yet unknowingly running toward each other." <No one notices your pain until it turns into anger, and then you're the bad person> __________________________________________________________________________ *SCENE* A mischievous smirk plays on his lips as he strides towards me, his eyes glinting with a mix of challenge and desire. As he approaches, the crowd around us begins to quiet, sensing the tension in the air. I stood my ground, my posture stiffening as i noticed his intent. With a sly grin, he invades my personal space, towering over me, using his presence to unsettle me. "I see how much of a 'pick me' you are, let me fulfill your desire then" His voice drips with mockery and seduction as he taunts me, playing up the scene for the onlookers. Without warning, he leans in closer, his hand brushing against my waist in a bold, provocative gesture, trying to 'God knows what to do?' in front of the gathered students. The crowd murmurs, some watching with bated breath, others with amused curiosity. But before he can take it any further, my eyes flash with resolve. In one swift motion, I bring my fist up and lands a solid punch on his nose. "Argh" The impact is immediate-a sickening crunch followed by him staggering back, clutching his nose in shock and pain. Blood trickles down his face, and the hallway erupts into gasps and whispers. My gaze fierce as i glared at him, voice steady and cold. "Don't you dare try that ever again," i warned, turning on my heel and walking away, leaving to nurse his bruised pride and bloodied nose, while everyone watches in stunned silence, the tables turned in a way no one had expected. "You'll pay for this" I heard his fading voice, while walking away from everyone, a smirk formed on my face thinking 'well! I do have lots of money'. [Not edited]

An Unexpected Moment

... that changes everything Sarah was starting her junior year of high school. Looking at herself in the mirror, she saw a pretty average blonde haired, blue eyed, teenager. She was neither in the popular group, nor one of the many cliched outsiders. Sarah was a nobody. She liked to blend in and lay low. It was her way out of not only this town, but her house. No one knew it, but her father was a high functioning alcoholic that often took his anger out on his family. With her older sister now in college, it had turned to her more often. Laying low in general was a good strategy. Across town, Ryan was prepping for his final year in high school. While he wasn't the stereotypical quarterback of the football team, he did fit into the popular crowd. His sports of choice included basketball and soccer, either of which might line him up for a scholarship next year. Ryan had a group of close friends and a lot of adoring acquaintances. It wasn't easy juggling his athletics and keeping the grades up, but he was just that good. The supporting parents didn't hurt either. It might be a cliché romance, but it will be fun to see what the year and beyond holds. ------------------------------------------ This is a story I wrote years ago, or at least partially wrote. As I transcribe it here, I have tried to update it a bit and give the characters/story more depth than what I had when I was younger. Hopefully it all gets pulled together!
