Surfing waves and surfing emotions wasn't different for Kenzie, both of them challenges that she wanted to conquer no matter what. Just like her determination to stick to her own principles wasn't too different from a river that could never change its course. Still, her ambition alone was never enough for the Capitol, never enough for the countless people that sneered at her for being too soft, too kind, too naive. But the children that she teaches tell her something else, that the role of kindess still hasn't faded, and that taking a whole life away is not something to be proud of. And so, she assumes the role of a protector, but perhaps someone should have told her that all dreams burn down someday, the cold wind of pain bringing them down in an instant.
