He hadn't been born when his mother snuck them out of the Arnab desert, where their people are immune to magic. He doesn't pray to her ancestral spirits, or believe her bedtime stories about griffins, the divine beasts that shape everyones' fates. Ken knows his destiny, and it's studying music in the Capitol.

So when both magic and ghosts upend his life, Ken draws the attention of mages and governments alike. And his search for answers will change the course of magic for all who have it.

But first, those feathery powers-that-be wish to have a word with him.

Some supposed best friend he turned out to be. Mum and dad would have screamed at him for hours for missing the things he did. Though, Griffin Taylor never did care about other people's feelings. I always thought I wasn't apart of that rule. That I was different to him. His best friend. His rock. No call. No text, no message through his mum or his brother. Nothing. Mine and Piper's world collapsed from under us. Total strangers on the outskirts of town showed their love and support. But Griffin?
