James Longstreet is a noir cliche. A burnt out detective, he chain smokes, knocks back stiff drinks, and snarls smartass quips with a poison tongue. His world is practically black and white, until a smarmy screenwriter walks into his office and hires him to find a missing person. The thing is though, the person he's been hired to track down is a fictional character from the writer's screenplay. Convinced it is a dumb prank, the desperate Longstreet reluctantly agrees to take the case when the writer offers him cold, hard cash. The next thing he knows, the detective is on a train to Kansas City, where he meets an imaginary man and is forced to question the truth of everything he has ever known.
