When Atsuki was six, she lost her family to someone wielding a blade. She was the sole survivor. Rui, a demon and member of the Twelve Kizuki, was the one to take her in as part of his "family". The two, now siblings, came to deeply care for each other, forming a strong bond. 

Atsuki was entirely aware of the exact lifestyle of her second family, nothing was ever hid from her about it. Perhaps if she had been older then she would not have approved, but the girl was young and was quick to normalise and accept their behaviour and ways.

Life for the "Spider Family" had been going wonderfully. It was nine years of happiness for the girl. That is, until a certain trio appeared at the foot of the mountain. 

Atsuki's fate took a drastic turn when the Demon Slayer Corps discovered that she had been living with demons despite being a human herself. Their next course of action would determine her fate, whether she would be spared or have her life taken.
