Severus Snape. A witchy whirlwind had met him first: dark hair, pale skin, sharp eyes. By far the youngest of Hogwarts' staff at just twenty-four, petite at 5'2, Luner Knight made her presence known as if she'd set fireworks off in the courtyard at midnight. With waist-length gold hair, crystal-blue eyes, sun-kissed skin, and a lithe, elegant way of moving, she was impossible to miss. Despite lacking an old family name, she had risen quickly-an elemental prodigy, master of flame, water and stone. Angular in bone, fiery in temper, and uncompromising in will, she was no meek newcomer willing to bow to authority. Snape was her opposite in every sense. Dark where she was golden, towering where she was small, his black robes swirled like the wings of a bat. With his hooked nose, thin mouth, and oily black hair, he carried the air of something crawled up from the dungeons, a spider waiting to strike. His voice cut like a blade, his wit cruel, his sneer constant. Cold black eyes pierced through students and colleagues alike, burning away defenses with their poisonous heat. So when they met, she laughed. She did not shrink beneath his scorn but snapped back, barbs as sharp as his own. Sometimes she cackled, loud and bright, unraveling his dark composure with maddening ease. Snape found her reckless, wild, foolish; she found him bitter, rigid, brilliant but insufferable. He was her eternal rival and reluctant companion, equal parts genius and gloom. She was the spark to his shadow, burning so hot she was bound to scorch. Fire and ice. Gold and black. Severus Snape and Luner Knight-an unlikely pairing forged in sparks and quarrels. Yet from the very first year of Harry Potter's time at Hogwarts, their clashes rang through the stone halls, a battle of tempers and wills. And beneath each sharp word and cutting glance, something unspoken took root-dangerous, unwanted, but impossible to ignore.
