After a year of adapting to his adoptive family, refugee, James Smith is ready to take on sixth form to learn the secrets of boyhood.

***

James Smith was not my real name. The refugee committee of Hartsay assigned it to me after the takeover of Hogshaw. All I ever knew was a lie. No one lived in sardine packed, camps. Not all worked the farms till Dawn. Boys aren't the only sex there's girls and a spectrum.

My brown folder was handed to my host family, The Thompson. Who is to take care of me till I turn eighteen and can fend for myself. I can't even hold a fork!

Never mind learning the secrets of boyhood.
