Link doesn't want Zelda to throw away everything they fought for just for his happiness. They don't know what will happen when she sends him back, and it's not a risk he wants to take. Now a child in the body of an adult, Link has to deal with consequences of wanting to live in the future they fought for.
He struggles with this world they built, to learn who he is and understand himself, and it's overwhelming.
Princess Zelda tries her best to help him, but it's not something someone can help with.
He needs to grow up himself, by his own years.
He needs to go back to the past, but Link refuses to let this Hyrule forfeit its existence for his gain.
He refuses to let Princess Zelda cease to exist, just so he can be happy.

The Princess of the vast kingdom of Hyrule, Zelda Nohansen was only sixteen by the time she was diagnosed with a illness called Huntington's Chorea. Which causes her memory to be very fragile from time to time, and sooner or later, it'll drive her to her deathbed. She has been told time and time again that she is nothing but a failure by achieving nothing in her life. Yet, she tries her hardest to fulfill her one wish in life, finding her own knight in shining armor, who would truly love her until the very end. Now being twenty-three years old, she embarks on a journey on her own after she gets frustrated over a personal guard that is ordered to follow her around anywhere she goes. However, during this journey her fate took an unfortunate turn and she completely lost her memory. As she continues to remember bits of her past she grows more and more curious about this one particular boy that seems to appear alot in these flashbacks. ~ All rights to Nintendo, The legend of Zelda series, thank you for making my childhood so memorable. Written in Blood . {After OoT/MM fic} Hyrule is on the brink of another bloody war when he returns, the hero that had slipped away to be forgotten by the land. No longer a hero, living a life of isolation far away from the land that had made him a legend once. Resentful and broken, Link hides it best he can, trying to focus on the future and forget. But Zelda remembers him, the person he once was. He's so different now, and perhaps she is too. The whole land is, transformed by war as Ganondorf works to seize all that he believes once belonged to him, in a time no longer. Both Link and Zelda find themselves in the middle of this war, forced to fight and strategize and deal with their own inner demons as well as each other, amidst the war the Hylians fight to regain their land and defeat the King of Thieves. > < . Blighted Memories
Amnesia was a funny thing. It strips you of all memories, both good and bad. But what it didn't take away from Link was his caring heart. He wasn't a man who had time to deal with or worry about things like memories anyway. All he cared about was doing what was right. But just because Link had no memories, or any interest to reclaim them, didn't mean they wouldn't return to haunt him. Ever since Link woke up, strange things have been happening around the land. Horrific creatures, not quite monster and not quite human, begin appearing at night to terrorize the denizens of Hyrule. Link, not one to simply let such evils do as they please, decides to investigate into the matter as he travels across the land to find a way to destroy these creatures. It should've been just another job for him, just a problem the people needed solved, just another errand for the incarnation of Hylia's hero. But as he investigates, he is haunted by his past. Link's mind cannot remember what happened. But his heart did. He still feels what he lost, what he failed to protect, even after one hundred years. That's what draws something toward Link, the very same evil that created the creatures he faces. It follows and watches him from the shadows, taunting him, waiting for him to remember the past he's forgotten, waiting for the pain to resurface, waiting for the time he can no longer carry the weight of it all. As he journeys on his quest to defeat Ganon and save Princess Zelda, Link must learn to contend with another ancient evil that taints the land, all while facing the ghosts of his forgotten past. How A Princess Fights.
When Zelda is forced to marry a tyrant that would bring her country to ruin, she lashes out at her new husband. The new King plots against her so he can have the kingdom and the Triforce for himself but Zelda has many friends in Hyrule. She must leave Hyrule Castle, her home, with no one but a knight at her side. She leaves with a promise, a promise to return some day, an army at her side and retake her kingdom, liberating her subjects from the King's tyranny. This is a Zelink story but I doubt it will be as good as my first Zelink story, 'A Princess Problem' but let's give it a try. The Legend of Zelda: The Dark Agenda
Far in the future, Link and Ganondorf battle in broken world, a fusion of the 'child' and 'adult' timelines. Hyrule is ravaged and all inhabitants, even Ganon's minions, have abandoned their homes due to fear of Link and Ganon's conflict. A Demigod takes advantage of their weakened states and places power inhibitors on their necks, forcing Link and Ganon to work together. This is an old fanfic from 2014. Keep in mind that this is not written as a thoroughly as novel, so this story does not have detailed descriptions of environments or senses. This is written as a plot synopsis/script for a video game premise. I have written this plot in such a way that it can easily fit into the far future of any Zelda timeline. (I should mention that I do have a copyright on this plot, not all of the characters. Because the plot I have written can fit into any JRPG video game, I acquired a copyright by swapping out all of Zelda's characters, places and terms with other names. However, the Demigod (his personality and goals) is my creation as well (ergo, also under the copyright) since he is a character that is from one of my novels. I know that my plot would essentially be a Zelda rip-off as it is, so I would not sell it on that basis.
