They called it the solitude. The moment when all fifty states established independent governments and blocked off access to the outside world. People can no longer see the oceans or the beaches that meet them. Some of these territories live in growth and prosperity beyond belief. Others, however, are stricken with grief, famine, war, and despair. Within these separated worlds, live four teenagers with very different lives. Yet, none of them are fulfilled. Whether it be the return of a loved one, wealth, or freedom, they all need something. These goals seem unreachable, until one night, when a black envelope appears in their rooms that prompts them to make a wish. Little do they know, they must be willing to die for it.

When I shut the door behind me I realized that no cars were driving out here either. They were all empty and abandoned. As I strolled by there were no people talking in the coffee shop windows. There were no people eating in restaurants. There were no sounds except my heavy breathing and the howling wind. "HELLOOOOOOOO" I shouted, "IS ANYONE HEREEEEE HELLOOOOO!!?" I continued to call out to no one in particular feeling a little agitated by the growing silence. That's when I heard it... The winds howling came to a stop. The world seemed to stop turning. Time itself came to a halt. Leaves caught in the breeze and remained motionless. That was until the wind came calling back to me, and in this it whispered one word that answered all my questions... (If you haven't read the first book, stop here! Don't spoil yourself, the first book is also on my profile) The death of a friend can break a person, or reshape them. It could be the straw that broke the camel's back, or a motivator, a push in the right direction. Aiden isn't sure where he falls. All he knows is the guilt and the desire for vengeance. Maybe things could've been different if he hadn't made such a disastrous mistake. But then an opportunity arises for Aiden to learn more about his fallen comrade, to get to know him even beyond the grave. And like death, everything that follows could make or break the rebellion. Note: This story contains a subplot featuring a romance between two boys. It's presented as normal. If you have a problem with the lgbt+ community, then this isn't the book - or authour - for you. I'm a member of the community myself. Happy pride month! Spread love, not hate. <3
