Chains bind some and duty binds others but fiery, flame-haired Elsa Trevelyan is bound by neither. She is bound by the constant fear of losing the freedom she sacrificed so much to gain. But when she finds herself falling for the Commander, she realises she must make a choice: To save the world from the brink of the abyss and protect those she loves so dearly... or to keep her precious freedom.

Can she truly keep the promise she made to herself that she'd escape?

An ongoing collection of short stories that will slowly build the tapestry of The Herald of Andraste's untold tale.

(Note that this is a fanfiction, most characters belong to Bioware apart from Elsa and a few others who are mine. The end.)

41 parts Ongoing Mature

When attacked and taken prisoner on a mission, a battlemage discovers she's part of a barbarian prophecy and the Thane is determined to make sure she fulfills it. When Knight-Enchanter Evelyn Trevelyan is ambushed by Avvar barbarians during a mission in the Frostback Basin, she becomes the most wanted mage in Thedas. When she is taken in by one of the Avvar Holds, things become even more complicated as they believe she is the woman prophesied to save the Avvar from extinction. Unwilling to let their savior go, the Thane of Redhold holds her prisoner while the other Avvar Holds seek to capture her. As her status as a mage outside the Circle of Magi brands her an apostate, she can neither go back home nor can she simply accept this new life that was thrust upon her. This is a tale laden with magic, spirits, gods, and demons based on the Dragon Age Avvar culture. In the midst of it all is a complicated enemies-to-friends-to-lovers romance. NO KNOWLEDGE OF DRAGON AGE IS NEEDED to enjoy, though if you have it, it only makes it more fun! Warnings: Sexual content, blood, gore, assault, and trauma. The characters and world of Thedas belong to Bioware.
