That was the letter that arrived on Iris' door, the letter that so many before her had hoped to get and never received. Yet she didn't want to leave, she didn't even think about the possibility of her getting it. Now her whole future had been change by merely some ink on a formal piece of paper. Despite the phrasing of the last sentence everyone knew it wasn't a choice, it was simply a polite request. The moment she signed she would become a pupil, and then her world would change.
