Revin Henrir is a telepathic beastspeaker who dreams of leaving his monastic island home to tame the world's fiercest beasts. When he saves the life of an adventuring monk, he discovers Narazoth, an exiled monk who plans to conquer the world with an army of sorcery-fueled machines. Revin joins forces with Omrai, the military leader of the Ateyan Empire, to stop Narazoth's reign of terror. But even as Revin faces the brutal realities of war, he must learn to sympathize not only with the beasts he controls, but the humans he doesn't understand.
