Mishti sat stiffly as the Mehta family gathered around her. Raghav, the stoic groom-to-be, barely looked at her, his eyes fixed on his phone. She tried to engage in small talk, but his monosyllabic responses drained her enthusiasm.
"So, Mishti," Raghav's mother said, her tone friendly but probing. "Have you given any thought to the engagement preparations?"
Mishti forced a smile. "Yes, aunty. Everything is on track."
"Good," she said, patting Mishti's hand. "You're such a responsible girl. Raghav is lucky."
Mishti glanced at Raghav, hoping for a flicker of agreement, but his indifference remained unbroken.
