Human sentience flickers as it struggles to survive its migration to virtual space, an infinite vastness of data and code dubbed The Citadel. Without a need for organic vessels we venture endlessly with little to no purpose for our now immortal consciousness in search of.....well, anything. Something. Everything. A need to once again fill a void we left behind in our efforts to outlive the weakness of the physical bodies we cast aside nearly a millennia ago. What was once a haven now threatens to be the undoing of its very creators. When a human mind wishes to undergo permanent slumber, that data is then recycled into the code of the construct that maintains the Citadel. But something has changed. It's become malicious. More and more of us willingly choose to cease our consciousness due to nothing more than boredom. Or loss. Or simply wanting to not "live" anymore. Soon we will become extinct. Our history wiped clean. I cannot let it end like this. It mustn't. There must be a way.....

Content Warning-This story is meant for mature audiences. It features adult language, references, situations, sexual content, graphic violence, and gore. Fantasy, horror, and science fiction are my favorite genres to read. They are also my favorite to write. I've enjoyed writing since I won my first writing contest in the fourth grade. That was over twenty-five years ago and I haven't shared a sinlge word of it. Imposter syndrome is a bitch! Well, I finally managed to pull the trigger. Here is "O Negative". It's a mix of all of my favorite genres. I've mixed a fantasy, based on present-day Earth, with plenty of graphic horror and wrapped it all up within a world driven by the technological advancements that only can be obtained from millions of years of civilation. A small group of strangers find themselves surviving in a decimated world. It's bad enough to be stranded in a no-name town, but things become surreal when you realize the vast majority of humanity has died...it becomes terrifying when you realize you aren't that lucky to be alive. "Survivor's Guilt" isn't a thing when you find yourself the sole food source for an entire group of beings that no longer need to hide in the shadows. Man is no longer at the top of the food chain...they are now the cattle.
