When the Pelican, a marvel of human engineering, suddenly goes missing on its way to Mars, it leaves no trace. Four months later, when a sole survivor resurfaces on the great prison moon Luna, she's no longer the same girl as the public remembered. Her once flush healthy cheeks are now hollow, her silky black hair buzzed off, and her opulent frame shaking uncontrollably. Avaline Fitzgale is traumatised. In her absence the entire Fitzgale household was pronounced died on the Pelican leaving behind only Cyprus Fitzgale to inherit his father's seat on the Council.
