Fruity Chutes parachutes were chosen by Matternet in 2016 as part of its FAA Type Certification safety strategy.

More than 45 parachute deployments under a wide range of conditions were required to satisfy the ASTM F3322-18 standards for the M2 drone and integrated 96" Iris Ultralight.

The FAA's four-year evaluation of Fruity Chutes' drone parachute marked the first time a UAS recovery company had successfully obtained FAA certification.

As part of the FAA Type Certification process, systems utilizing parachutes must complete a certain number of flight hours, depending on population density, without failure.
