Heart pounding, heavy breathing. Gun shots echoing around me, blood and blackness masking my vision. The crack of bullets feel like a blow to my head as they ricochet towards me. Pungent, ghastly fumes of the factory walls take over my senses, drowning out Effy's screams. The last noise I heard that night, the last noise I ever heard in that world, was fear. Effy's fear. And, somehow, that satisfaction was enough for me to go.
