Life in the Colonies is mostly a quiet affair. People are born, grow up, fall in love and get married like they do in most other places in the world. They have hopes, dreams, mortgages and dead-end jobs, go through trials and tribulations like generations of people have done before them and will do long after they are gone.
The only real difference is that there is no way to leave aside from being 'chosen'.
Once chosen your life is no longer your own.
