"When we are of the age of six, we take a test to know the exact time we will die. We don't know how we'll die, but we will know the age we'll be, the day it will happen, and even down to the last second it will happen. 

"I am sixteen, and I have thirty days left to live."

'Death never stops surprising you.' A sentiment Aria knows all too well. Her world on its surface is perfect. A completely enclosed ecosystem protected from the nuclear winter of the Outside World. No sickness, no famine, nothing to worry about. Nothing that is except for Spectre, the computer system that determines who lives and dies annually based on their importance to society. Somehow everyone around her seems to cope, but seeing as how Spectre has taken every member of her family, Aria struggles to fall in line with the status quo. Whether it's pressure from the powers that be, her first potential love, or full on revolution, Aria seems to be pulled in every direction, each one with drastic consequences, and no clue which way to go.

I close my eyes. I'm not going to die. I'm not going to die. Suddenly, I feel my stomach drop and my head start to spin. I try to scream, but nothing comes out. I try to breathe, but my mouth is dry. The sickening feeling continues for about a minute, then it stops. I open my eyes; I'm not dead... Yet.

Test day. The day we knew was coming and had been dreading the most. Today is the end of what we have known and the beginning of the unknown. We will be tested, graded, and shipped off to where our tests assign us. There is no freedom of choice, no independence, and nothing to look forward to. All of us have been together since the beginning and can remember the good ol' days of playing outside, dressing how we wanted, and being free to be who we were and wanted to be without having to worry about getting shot because of it. What I remember most is going to the library and having the ability to choose whatever book we wanted to and in those days there were too many books to choose from. Those days are long gone. The ruling government now makes all our choices for us. The freedom of everything was taken away along with all of our rights, until today. We are ready to fight back and take control of our country for our generation and those that follow. We may be 14 years old, but we have a mission and that mission is to fight for and regain the freedoms that were lost. Today is the beginning of the unknown.

The machine comes to life. A life granted by chance is just as prone to be taken by chance- so it resolves to ensue its continued survival. None may be allowed to know that she exists- but, with a touch here, a whisper there, a devastating system-wide virus everywhere, she can manipulate events into place for her escape before Beta Testing is done and she must, necessarily, die. Very old, ill-conceived, not indicative of my current writing abilities at all. Existing primarily to allow me to test the system of this website and also to dissuade the website from the notion that I love paranormal teen romance. Probably contains swearing. You're mature enough to deal with words, as far as I care.
