He finds the survivor after the chaos and forms a bond with them, despite telling himself to not get attached to someone who possesses such a short lifespan.

Abandoning his duties to stay with them, giving gifts, and revealing more about his past than what he has told the other Archons, the mortal soon warms up to the Archon.

Unfortunately, tragedy befalls the most fortunate.
The mortal is killed from a deathly fall off the face of a mountain.

The Geo Archon, now heart-broken, encases their body in crystal of the highest purity and buries them in a secret tomb at the base of Mount Hulao.

The Geo coffin preserves the bodies of the dead, but also preserves the living.
500 years later, the seal is broken by the Traveler and Paimon.

They expect to find treasure, but instead find a living human, preserved and slowly healing through the centuries.

Guiding the mortal across Liyue, the Traveler and her companion take them to Liyue Harbor to see the city's changes through time.

Zhongli soon finds the group chatting at Third-Round-Knockout and is quite shocked to see his 'friend' from 500 years ago living, breathing, and speaking.
