Number 9656 nickname Num, lives in a society where everyone is equal. No one is permitted special treatment, unless you're part of The Elite. The Common Folk ache to become more. To make their own choices, lead their own lives. But no one can remember these thoughts long enough to act upon them.

Num is different, and he knows it. He has the ability to dream, and eventually he becomes immune to the phenomena that is sweeping the Common Folk. He begins to remember. He can no longer forget, and he is targeted because of it.
