Mariallis School of the High Seas student, Alora Bathalia, has only known the oceanside city of Nethildra to be dominated by greedy Mako elites extracting wealth from the town's soil and the people. Still, she adores Nethildra to be her wonderous home of natural beauty. The only way the unbalanced society becomes bearable is her Stingray Sailor jock best friend, Lotan Linsky. Both have been inseparable since birth. Raised by her eldest and only sister Ula, she has only gotten to know her dead parents through her while Ula has taken care of her since the accident. Ula and Lotan are her rock in the instability of it all.

All of that changes when secrets are uncovered and the lives of Third Year Mariallis students are threatened under the annual Placement ceremony that assigns students to Makos for an apprenticeship. When paired with Jasper Aiko, she deems their match unbearable as he is crude-mannered, stubborn, and out-of-touch with the realities outside his emerald bubble. Jasper on the other hand finds her spoiled, ungrateful, and repulsive in her Nethildra ways. However, a shift transpires between them as an erupting war causes them to come to the realization that they might after all need each other to get out of this alive, and an unexpected flame sparks in the midst of chaos within their hearts.
