Because we weren't human, and we didn't live in the darkness, and so we were attacked from both sides, always having to look for an escape route. So I snapped, and instead of running towards the door like I knew I should have, I threw a punch that was supposed to land in his rib cage, hopefully breaking a few and causing enough internal damage that he would be down for a while.
