Heart of Flax

Finally, Philomena made it to the top of the stairs, channeling what little inner strength she had left after the torture she'd been through. She had spent the entire time glancing down, minding each step to avoid falling, and when she looked up, she saw him. His black hair and handsome face stared down at her. His beautiful gray eyes stared into her soul as her amber eyes stared into his. The light shone down on his knight armor, which was missing its helmet. He's so large. His gaze lingered on her as if he were angry with her, making her shiver. How could she marry someone so...so, terrifying!?

The priest's speech hadn't entered her ears with her racing thoughts, and when she was eventually asked to say, "I do," her mind softened, and she couldn't remember what was asked of her.

"I do." I mean, I don't! But before she could correct herself, her husband's rich voice repeated the phrase too.
