In days long ago, the legend is told, of the great Avenger, Jack Daw, who rode the land like a demon from the fiery pits of hell, spreading terror in the hearts of men. No one knew who he was or where he came from. He appeared out of thin air and vanished again once his deadly work was done. Wherever cruelty and injustice abided, Jack Daw would arrive and mete out punishment. Only the criminal element and those corrupt in power feared his wrath. They constantly sought to capture or eliminate him but the common folk loved him and protected him even though none knew his true identity. He was one of them and the good people of Glenrobin protected their own. Many a pretty maid sighed over his exploits and secretly dreamed of running away with him. Many a young man dreamed of riding at his side, valiantly fighting injustice. Locals took it upon themselves to make up tales of daring-do, adding to the legend and increasing the popularity of the man. It was near impossible to determine which stories were fact and which were fiction. And the legend grew larger until no human man could possibly have achieved so much alone. Only one knew the absolute truth and he kept the secret close to his heart until he could keep his secret no longer.

This is a work of fiction. It is loosely set in the Regency era and is not historically accurate.

Sequel to "Escape from the Witch Hunters" Jack kept walking towards her and Ami kept backing up until finally she hit the wall. "Why are you doing this?" "Doing what?" he had an arrogant smile on his face and he got closer to her. "That." she nodded towards his closing in on her. Her breathing and her heart beating picked up speed. "Is it wrong for me to want my own wife?" his own body was nearly pressed against hers and he rested his head between her head and shoulder. "It is when you, just days before, resented the very fact that I was alive." she closed her eyes, trying to steady her breathing. "Maybe I've had a change of heart." he looked at her. She looked at him with her blue eyes. "I don't think so." "What if I said I loved you?" he whispered hoarsely. "I wouldn't believe you." she rested her head against the wall as her heart pounded in her ears. His eyes flashed, then he viciously grabbed her by the waist, pulled her close to him, and his lips crashed onto hers. ~~~ Andromeda Aurora Amélia the Third had dreaded the day she turned sixteen, as she would have to be married to the very snobbish boy, Prince Jacques. In Book 1, Jack conspires with friend Jeremy to undermine their racist, secessionist teacher's efforts to poison his students' minds with his benefits-of-slavery lectures. Will the students buy into it? Not if Jack has any say. The book is dedicated to my brother and to my old friend, Jack, the latter who, at 19, was killed speeding in his too-fast car, alone, in 1971. We met when I was a first grader at a Groton, Massachusetts parochial school. Jack was in second grade, I was in the first grade. One day Jack began teasing on the bus ride home so we got off at his bus stop to fight. I was little - he much bigger. He pinned me to the ground, forced me to quit. That kicked off our friendship that lasted years. Jack was a pitcher on the high school baseball team. He was so fast - somewhat wild. I was afraid to bat against him. He tried out for a professional farm team but didn't make it. He worked in the local factory and had no real career designs other than in sports which were the center of his life. Not long after his failed attempt(s) at major league baseball, he smashed into a tree at high speed on a quiet road early one morning. Jack had a 'hero complex' - needing to be the center of attention. He excelled at sports but wasn't interested in academics. He bet everything on his sports abilities that wowed neighborhood friends growing up. This story also is dedicated to both Jack and my brother, Paul, a friend of Jack's. Paul passed in January, 2016. I finally started Jack's story in 2000 when I began teaching in New York City. It dawned on me one day to transport Jack as a composite character - i.e., a character who has qualities and characteristics that Jack had but who also possessed ones he didn't have - into 1860's America. In the book, Jack becomes the hero - a status that mostly evaded him in real life. I think he would have been proud of the story. Many events are entirely fictional - some are not. All characters are fictional or partially so.

Jack had almost hurt, or even killed, his friends by accidentally tripping over a curb and creating a massive blizzard. The Guardians were furious since the children's lives were momentarily put in serious danger by one of their own. After a heated argument between Jack and the others, he ran off. He was sick and tired of them not listening to him, always accusing him of something he didn't do, or in this case, unintentionally did. He went to his home again, but in the woods and out of sight. He ran into a witch, who he didnt even know lived there. She begged for some assistance in finding some herbs. Jack, however, declined the offer. She persisted, and that annoyed Jack. He had already been going through enough and this old witch wasn't helping. He then yelled at her to leave him be and to find her own "stupid plants". The witch wasn't happy, in fact, his blind rudeness angered her. So, she cursed him to mortality for 3 months. If he didn't learn how to handle hardships and what it's like being a human in that time frame, he would die. Jack soon meets an unexpected rescuer who takes him in and cares for him. Not only is he fighting against time, but the Boogyman decides to make Jack a target. Will he learn his lesson? Or will he die in 3 months time? If he is to survive, what will happen next? What will happen to Pitch? **This book is not all light hearted, there are serious topics included in it.**
