However, while out on a supply run, he runs into the unconscious Nagisa Shingetsu by pure chance, but the boy is injured. He knows he won't survive without help. Against his better judgment, he decides to help nurse the boy back to health as well as find his other friends. After all, he can't just leave someone who needs help behind.
