Every year on New Year's Day, witches, wizards, and magical, mystical creatures of all kind unite to watch or compete in a tournament where the chosen ones are pit against each other to compete and share their skills in different areas.
Last year, on The Tournament that marked a new century, the mythical met its worst fear, the discovery of their existence by humankind.
This year, The Tournament will be run by the MCOB (Magical Creatures Operations Bureau), an army created to defend humanity from the "inhumans", as per dictated by rules in a peace treaty signed to stop a war that was erupting between humans and magical beings, which could've ended in armageddon.
Seraphine Luna is a mage, or so people think, because she's half something else entirely. Her mother was one of the strongest mages alive and one of the heroes/victims of the New Year's Day massacre that followed the previous year's festivities, with the survivors being arrested, persecuted, or experimented on for the 3 months during which the battle between both worlds lasted before coming to a truce. Seraphine, being the firstborn, was left in charge of her younger brothers.
New Year's is coming around again, and both Seraphine and her middle brother, Xavier, are eligible as competitors because they are older than 21. What once was an honor, is now riddled with fear of what The Tournament might become at the hands of humanity.
They both await the announcement along with their youngest brother, Atreyu, a teenager, in fear that a mark may appear on their left wrist, signaling having been chosen as a competitor.
As their fear turns into reality, one of them is chosen, and sent to the uncharted territory of a magical tournament run by violent, organized, non-magic humans.
And what the humans might do, is not the only surprise that awaits them.
*An alternate reality where Annabelle (Lunna) and Stella (Selene) do not get along*
Annabelle and Isabelle are two very different girls, they are also twins. When their parents were in a car accident in which they were hit by a drunk driver, they both get sent to foster homes because none of their other family members would take them in. The girls only being a year old at the time, were separated and never saw one another again. They both faced hardships and have experienced things that no one should ever have to go through. The girls coincidently apply to the same boarding school for their senior year: Richmond Academy.
Isabelle is not your ordinary girl. She can kick butt and isn't afraid to tell you the truth straight to your face. She puts up a facade of being a strong and bubbly girl but inside she feels weak and useless. She only has her best friend Ashton whom is very rich but also very abandoned by hiw woraholic parents. Her passion is photography as well as art and music: the only things keeping her sane. Isabelle decides to apply to Richmond Academy to start a new life and finally be in control of her life. She hopes to finally become a new person and maybe even open up to people and turn a new leaf.
Annabelle is quite the opposite of Isabelle. She drowns herself in her books and tries not to get involved with anyone. She isn't unsociable but she is also very reserved. Her passions are to read and write because that's the only real way she can express herself fully with no judgments. Annabelle applies to Richmond Academy because she would also like to start over and she would very much like to finally escape her past.
When their worlds collide they begin to open up, become new people and discover many secrets about themselves that they never knew. They must also face something they have never felt before: love.
